Research Abstract |
1) We examined the undermentioned fundamental matters in both Japan and China clarifying mutual understanding concerning them, and made comparative studies. The common period of the examinations for two countries was since 1949 to present in general. 1.1) Systems of higher education About Japan, matters in the period before the W.W.II and wartime (1886-1948) was also examined. 1.2) The policy of higher education, especially the policy of student recruitment. 1.3) The system of undergraduate admissions and its economic and social influence. About Japan, matters in the period before the W.W.II and wartime (1886-1948) was also examined. 1.4) Changes and prospects of the undergraduate admissions reform. 2) We also made the undermentioned particular studies. 2.1) A theoretical study concerning the relations between undergraduate admissions and economic development. 2.2) An analysis of data concerning the student recruitment and competition rate for undergraduate admissions in the period before the W.W.II and wartime (1886-1948) in Japan 2.3) Analyzes of entrance exam questions in English, mathematics and physics for the higher education institutions in the period before the W.W.II and wartime (1921-1935) in Japan. 3) An interim report (1996) and a final report (1998) were made out as compilations of the theses describing the results of above mentioned studies. 4) We found, through the collaborative study, the following that Japanese experiences of the undergraduate admissions provide many useful information for China, and Chinese recent developments of higher education and undergraduate admissions suggest many matters for the future of Japan.
