Research Abstract |
The Japanese scientific terms in aeronatics and astronautics are collected and stored in an electronic database. Collection has been made separately in 14 main fields of aeronautics and astronautics, such as aerodynamics, material, structure, propulsion, flight dynamics, space utilization, operating control and so on. Collection in each field is supervised by the investigators of the present research project. Scientific terms are widely selected from "Handbook of Aeronautics and Astronautics, " published by the Japan Society for Aeronautical aud Space Science, various journals in relation to aeronautics and astronautics, famous text books and private databases used in institutions. The Japanese scientific terms in aeronautics compiled by Ministry of Education, Japan in 1973 are also checked and important terms are included in the present database. All the scientific terms collected in these fields are gathered into one electronic database. The database consists of the Japanese term in Kanji, Japanese term in the Roma-ji, Japanese term in Kana, English term, fields in which the term is collected and abbreviation (if any). In total, the number of terms collected is 10270. Finally, the Japanese-English dictionary, the English-Japanese dictionary and the dictionary of abbreviations are made as a reference in standard usage of the Japanese scientific terms in aeronautics and astronautics by using the present electronic database. The Japanese scientific terms in aeronautics and astronautics will bc newly compiled by the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture based on the present database.
