Research Abstract

To carry out the project "A study on the fatigue reliability of hybrid modified material", two small research group were organized by core members of this project with the co-operation of Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Group 1 : Fatigue Properties of Hybrid Surface Modified Material
Group 2 : Characterization of Thermally Sprayd Coatings
The effect of hybrid surface modification on fatigue reliability were examined focusing on the fatigue fracture mechanisms by employing a practical approach to experimentation.
Also an organized session entitled "Hybrid Surface Treatment" was held by the group during a domestic conference concluded last year in Ibaraki. Most of 12 presentations in that session including 4 key note lectures, were presented by the core member of this project. Then, the topics were groped and prioritized according to problems the group wanted to solve.
In addition, the core group also organized a symposium on "FATIGUE RELIABILITY OF HYBRID SURFACE MODIFIED MATERIAL" in January 16.1997 at Keio University to discuss about future project concerning "Hybrid Surface Treatment". The following topic were covered :
1. Fatigue Properties of Super-rapid Induction Hardened Steel
2. Fatigue Reliability Evaluation by an application of "P-S-N Globe"
3. Fatigue Behavior of Supercarburized steel
4. Thermal Cycle Damage of Thermal Barrir Coatings
5. Fatigue Reliability of Nitrogen Ion Implanted Steel
