| Research Abstract |
1.The "back-end" and "front-end" functions of a digital library have been defined and discussed.
2.It has been experimentally confirmed that ANSI Protocol Z39.50 is useful in retrieving Japanese bibliographic information via Internet.
3.Configuration and activity of Japanese World Wide Web information network has been statistically studied.
4.A printed book and an electronic book (CD-ROM) whose contents are the same have been read by 24 readers in order to compare them in the extent of understanding of the contents.
5.Face-to-face teaching and remote teaching using LAN collaboration technique have been compared by 30 subjects who want to learn the operation of a GUI-application.
6.Multi-lingual WWW browser has been developed and its server system has been available in the Internet from overseas.
7.A knowledge-based system to assist book selection for children using multi-media has been developed. The system was implemented on WWW using Java.
8.The two dimensional visual representation of book characteristics based principal component analysis has been presented.
