Research Abstract |
3D-simulation model is made from the 3D image of CT or MRI using milling machine. 3D milling machine named ENDOPLAN was installed in 1993, and was applied for brachytherapy. There were no trial of the 3D model for brachytherapy around the world. The aim of this research is to develop the treatment planning and precise treatment technique using 3D simulation model. To deliver the high dose to the tumor, applicators for the guide of the sealed radioisotopes must be placed in the appropriate or planned position. It is easy to insert or place the applicators in the appropriate position using 3D-simulation model. To avoid the high dose for the critical organs, a spacer was placed between the applicators and the critical organs. It was easy to make an appropriate shape of spacer using the 3D-simulation model. Treatment results of the brachytherapy were influenced by the technique and experience of doctors in charge. However, using 3D-simulation model, doctors can easily obtain appropriate arrangements of the applicators and appropriate dose distribution. This precise treatment planning and technique will make the next step of the brachytherapy. Our clinical study of the high dose rate brachythrapy for malignant tumor is the leading study the world, and treatment planning using 3D-simulation model is also only unique study in the world. We are making a plan to use both of the 3D-simulation model and 3D imaging to obtain an appropriate arrangement of the applicators and dose distribution which dose not need the long clinical experience of doctors for the brachytherapy.
