Research Abstract |
The homopolar inductor type motors have two rotors, which can be magnetized with the field windings of the stator, then are well suited for mechanical contactless bearingless motors which the investigators have proposed for high speed rotating machines. In this research, the investigators propose homopolar type bearingless machines. The focus is placed on the development of the design, the fundamental characteristics, and the control methods, and obtained the final achievements summarized as follows : 1) Homo-polar type bearingless motors and the controllers of the motors and the radial rotor position controllers are manufactured. 2) Radial forces are calculated, then the fact that radial forces can be produced with DC current of the radial force windings was pointed out and confirmed by 2-axis levitation tests with rotation. 3) The pole numbers of the radial force windings must be 2. In order not to produce radial force ripples, and interference of torque component fluxes, the least pole numbers of the motor windings are 4, which are the same as the plot-type machines. 4) Field weakening methods were developed. The fact that adjustment of field fluxes makes larger output power was pointed out. It was confirmed by the field weakening operation up to 12000rpm in loaded conditions by using the manufactured test system with load machines and torque meters.
