Research Abstract |
In order to clarify a role of keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) in the regulation of human endometrial function and implantation, we investigated the changes in KGF mRNA in endometrium during menstrual cycle and in decidua of early pregnancy as well as the biological effect of KGF on trophsblastic cells. The levels of KGF mRNA increased in luteal phase and in early pregnancy, suggesting that it is under the control of progesterone. We also demonstrated the HGF receptor mRNA in chorionic villi and choriocarcinoma cells. Thus, KGF produced in decidual cells acts on trophoblasts in a paracrine fashion, KGF enhanced hCG secretion from choriocarcinoma cell line in vitro, but not influence cell proliferation. These results indicate that KGF plays an important role in endometrial/decidual-trophoblastic interaction.
