| Research Abstract |
The therapies for retinal degeneration have been investigating as genetics therapy, retinal pigment epithelium transplantation and retinal transplantation. The most suffering problem in retinal pigment epithelium transplantation is rejection that occurs several month after transplantation.
Retinal pigment epithelium transplantation was successful in many research institution, and that inhibits photoreceptor degeneration in retinal degenerative animals. But after several weeks, leaking was seen by fluorescein angiography, and transplanted retinal epithelial cells was rejected. To inhibit the rejection, we improved the method of transplantation, but it ended in failure. We succeeded to reduce the rejection by injecting Cyclosporin into vitreous, but that caused retinal damage that proved by electrophysiological and pathological research.
ICAM1, LFA1 and CCAM1 are antibodies that considered to inhibit rejection, and we confirmed that these antibodies don't have toxicity for retina although we couldn't confirm the inhibition of rejection in retinal pigment epithelium transplantation. In another research, the effect of these antibodies are confirmed. So we expect the application of these antibodies to reduce the rejection of retinal epithelium transplantation and other tissue transplantation.
