Research Abstract |
The possibility was investigated to prevent saw deviaiton which leads to the sawing inaccuracy produced on the workpiece by the automatic control of workpiece feed-rate in response to the band sawing behavior. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1) An automatic sawing system, which enabled adaptive control and fuzzy control, was developed using a feed apparatus with a servo moter, a band-sawing machine, a personal computer, and an eddy-current displacement sensor. 2) By monitoring the sawing deviation in process, the sawing inaccuracy produced on the workpiece was possible to understand. As the feed-rate was increased, the saw deviation is increases. 3) An adaptive control sawing system, in which the saw deviation and the feed-rate was chosen as the process variable and the control variable, respectively, reduced the maximum sawing inaccuracy produced on the workpiece to 1/6 of that under the normal sawing. 4) The experiences and methods for the control employed by the experts can be expressed easily by the 「if-then」 form according to the fuzzy control rules. 5) The fuzzy control system showed the better result than the adaptive control system. The fuzzy control system controlled automatically the feed-rate to keep the saw deviation within the allowable range for the various cutting conditions such as wood-species, moisture contents, fiber orientations, knots, width and thickness of workpiece, and tensioning forces.
