Research Abstract |
1) Development of a multi-channel EEGs measuring method The methods and devices that digitalize EEGs of 64 channels using a computer were developed. Furthermore, we have developed a special cap that fits many electrods on scalp. 2) Development of algorithm that reconstruct 3D-brain structure using digitized 3D-MRI data. Algorithm that extracts the scalp, cranium, cerebrospinal fluid cavity, cerebrum form 3D-MRI and reconstructs a 3D wire frame model was developed. 3) EEG analysis on mental disorders 1. EEG study on schizophrenic patients : A comparison between neuroleptic-naive state and after treatment was performed. 2. Quantitative EEG correlates of normal aging in the elderly were studied. 3. Estimation of epileptic source generator using dipole tracing method and 3D-MRI was performed. 4. Ethanol-induced alternations in EEG was investigated as a biological marker for alcoholism. 4) Development of algorithm that estimates spatially spread cerebral activity We have developed 'Corticograma', that is a method to estimate the electrical potential of a cerebral surface from the electrical potential on the scalp. Based on this method, a electrical potential distribution of a cerebral surface was estimated based on a potential distribution of the scalp using Scalp-Skull-Cortex Model (SSB Model). The information in Corticogram increases according to the increase in the number of the electrodes attached on the scalp. The validity and error of estimation of Corticogram was evaluated.
