Research Abstract |
The purpose of the first study was to elucidate the in vitro antimicrobial effect of five commercially available tissue conditioners containing silverzeolite (2 wt%) on Candida albicans and nosocomial respiratory infectioncausing bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Tissue conditioners containing silver-zeolite have been shown to have antimicrobial effects for 4 weeks on C.albicans and nosocomial respiratory infection-causing bacteria in saliva in vitro. The purpose of the second study was to evaluate dynamic viscoelastic properties of same five tissue conditioners containing silver-zeolite (0.2.5 and 10 wt%) using non-resonance forced vibration method. Measurements were carried out after without and with immersion in distillled water and artificial saliva at 37゚C for 24 hours, 1 week and 4 weeks. The results indicate that dynamic viscoelastic properties of tissue conditioners are influenced considerably by storage conditions and the time proceeds, and that there is a small effect of silver-zeolite.
