Research Abstract |
Recently attention has been placed on the enrichment of nitrogen isotope N-15, which is indispensable for production of nitride fuels to be used in Fast Neutron Reactors. The present work is devoted to the development of N-15 enrichment process based on ion exchange. In the present work, porous sulfonic acid type cation exchange resin, TITEC-H1 was synthesized ; 30% crosslinking, 200-400 mesh. Using this resin, ion exchange chromatography of NH_4+ ion band was conducted at different conditions of temperature, concentration of the eluent, and the flow rate. The results show that around 1 M concentration is appropriate for the eluent. Temperature does not affects on the separation performance so largely as expected form other elements. The rate of the feed solution has shown a very interesting tendency relating to the HETP.The HETPs are increased in both sides of low flow rate and high flow rate, giving the minimum value at a certain flow rate. This pattern of HETP has been analyzed by the laminar-turbulent flow model.
