Research Abstract |
School children may be in stresses participated in the challenge camp that is characterized by a freedom and democratic relationship, for example, no-program, without reward and punishment, etc. About 20 children passed for a week with supportive camp staffs who were trained through STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting : Dinkmayr & Mckay, 1976). The changes of cognitive appraisal and coping for stress in each child individually pursued by PAC-analysis (Personal Attitude Construct analysis : Naitoh, 1993,1994). In the results, the cognitive appraisal and coping for stress in each child were found positive changes. For example, the boy whose mather considered him learning disability, before the camp, was worried about his learning ability, and he was apt to refuse to go to his school. After the camp, although he showed once the change of behavior, he worried out 8 monthes ago finally. These results were discussed in terms of effects of social support and hardiness development.
