Research Abstract |
Citizen's Community involvements towards the issues in the area has been sometimes problematically lower level in Japan. Developing industrialisation has caused the change of social strata, way of life in every community. Now, there are full of "middle" stratum in consciousness, who are up-rooted from community they stay. It is said there is not so much different stratum consciousness in Japan. Despite of levelling society, this research in comparison between residents in a small city and a larger city indicates rather clear stratum consciousness especially by the difference of income. In the other hand, stratum of lower and middle in income and high mobility has lower motivation about participation in community organisation and other communal issues. Secondly, stereotyped image of the community has influence on resident's stratum identity. In the small city with lower developed image, stratum identification of citizen is observed more lower than objective indices. In the larger city, it indicates quite the contrary. Nevertheless, communal issues for improving quality of life in community are not so much seriously under consideration among citizen in both city.
