Research Abstract

The Women's studies in Latin America began at the beginning of 1970's. The women's world conference in Mexico of 1975 advanced women's studies and feminism movements which were rooted from the socialism revolutions and the movement of anti-dictatorship. The study of education for women is not an advanced area among the women's study. After the conference in Mexico, the gobernments began to investigate the conditions of women in their countries, however the data was mainly statistical.
In Latin America the Politics for women have been carried out with the gender and development policy which is intiated by UN.The UN has influenced the educational politics for women, too. The politics and programs for advancement of women in Latin America diversified in their objectives and their way ; the programs of formal and non-formal education, technical training, and popular education. The programs are so different that they have not been analyzed well. In tihs report, we tried to categorized the educational programs for women into 5 types ; Welfare approach, Equity approach, Anti-povety approach, Effjciendy approach, and Empowerment approach. And also we analyzed the case of educational policy for women in Nicaragua.
In Nicaraguan formal education, the government tried to give the opportunity for education to all the people, regardless of sex. In non-formal education the programs are concerned to the women's practical needs of daily life. Recently the program that accelerate women to enter the non traditional professions goes on. This program responds to the women's practical needs and also to the needs to liberation of women.
