Research Abstract |
1.Analyzed the place of the peace policy againt riots and heresy in the first two years of the reign of Henry V on the following points : (1) On the contents of three medieval Statutes against heretics (1383,1401,1414) (2) On the cases of riot before the King's Bench (3) On the constitutions and inquests made and held by the church against heretics 2.The resulting points are : (1) That later medieval England had already seen the developments of civil policy as against the riots and heretics. However, it was in the statute of May 1414 (Statute 1,2 Henry V) for these two sets of regulations, that they constructed an integral policy for the defense of the lay and ecclesiastical order against "Lollards" as the foundation of the predominance of the church and the state over the common people. (2) That the Statute of Riot worked, indifferent with the policy of the King, as an useful tool for gentry to attack each other in cource of the disconcord on the issues with any claim to property or local leadership. (3) That the Church itself proceeded its regulations against heretics, in the forms of the constitutions and inquests by the conventions or ordinaries, with or without the Statute of Herecy 1414.
