Research Abstract |
The object of this research is to analyze both sales and mining division of Mitsubishi Partnership, Mitsubishi Goshi, as a case study of huge mining companies in Japan. The period covered is about 1910's. The outlines of the research are as follows. First, the figures on production and sales of Mitsubishi copper are made clear through a detailed examination of Mitsubishi's original materials. Second, the production system of copper which was unique to Mitsubishi is made clear from the above examination. It was formed as a base of Mitsubishi Osaka Refinery. Third, Mitsubishi's sales activity of copper before World War I is clarified through an examination of the montly reports of Kobe Branch of Mitsubishi. It was in charge of copper sales of Mitsubishi for a long time. Fourth, it is made clear that Mitsubishi developed a new market for copper during World War I.This research analyzes it and Mitsubishi's behavior through an examination of the montly reports of London Branch of Mitsubishi, which started its business in January, 1916. Fifth, Mitsubishi changed its strategy and deceided to sell more copper in japanese market than in overseas one in the latter half of World War I.
