Research Abstract |
Industries today often require metal pipes and disks with very thin wall, very smooth and bright surface. For higher productivity, some triale have been made on surface finishing of these products by means of metal forning processes. It is quite important to understand the mechanism of friction behavior between tool and workpiece. With these points as background, a new concept was introduced to the ironing process. By replicating the smooth tool surface onto the aluminum strip surface, smooth surface and this wall could be produced. An experiment was carried out to determine the effects of reduction ratio and oil-viscosity on the surface flattening. It is very important factors to produce these products that conditoins to replicate the smooth tool surface through a large metal deformation under high pressure and small slip between the tool and the workpiece.
