Research Abstract |
Mental process in realizing an architectural plan drawing have been studied by cognitive science approach. A new test method "Blank-Plan Test" and its control program have been developed. A blank plan is defined as a drawing plan without any other information than main walls and columns, it is analogy to blank "blank map". Blank-Plan test is guess room name for a sheet of blank-plan, subjects have to solve the problem with making verbal report. A revised test method "Blank-Image Test"has been developed, which includes computer image at background in a blank plan. The two test methods provide us representation for knowledge of dwelling house by using protocol analysis. A simulation program to solve the blank-plan problem has been developed as a prototype in a smalltalk environment. The program has basic knowledge concerning dwelling house that is realized by blank-plan tests. Though its deduction method is a linear search, the program is capable of solving blank-plan of Japanese typical dwellings.
