Research Abstract

Hard materials such as WC or stellite poweders were cladded on the mild steel using resistance cladding method. 1 mm-thick powder beds containing the hard material and brazing material were made before cladding. And effects of welding current, welding speed and electrode pressure on microstructures, porosity and wear resistance were studied. Wear loss of the specimen was measured by labor-wheel wearing test machine. Main results obtained are as follows ; (1) The hard materials were not melted during the resistance cladding welding and the materials were bonded on the mild steel by the brazing material. The brazing material was melted well in case of higher welding current and lower electrode pressure. (2) The thickness of the cladded layr was about 300 to 800 mum. (3) The porosity in the cladded layr decreased with increase of the welding current and with decrease of the electrode pressure. (4) It was found from the result of bending test of the clad specimen that the bondability of the hard material to the mild steel was nery strong. (5) The wear resistance was improved with increase of welding current.
