Research Abstract

At the first year, the image processing software to measure the color of rice leaves was improved and measurement system of the growing environment of the rice was constructed 2 temperature sensors, 2 humidity sensors, 2 ground temperature sensors, a rainfall depth sensor, and a photon sensor were used to measure the growing environment of the rice.
The rice was experimentally grown in a experimental field in the final term. This experimental field was made from 12 plastic vats placed in two rows. The size of it was 1.8m in length and 1.8m in side. In the experiment, one row of the vats was treated as a measurement division.
The used fertilizer was an ammonium sulfate (nitrogen element 21%). Different amount of the fertilizer was scattered in each division at different time. And, the variation of the color of rice leaves was measured by the chlorophyll meter and the image processing. It was found that the color of rice leaves was different from the result of the measurement by the chlorophyll meter. The result of the image processing was not equal to the result of the measurement which used the chlorophyll meter. It is thought that the reason was that the reaction of the color of rice leaves to the fertilizer was small and the variation of it was smaller than the limit of the measurement accuracy of the image processing.
The experiment was executed only for one year. As a result, a concrete relational expression between the color of rice leaves and the fertilizer was not derived. In addition, a concrete relational expression between the color of rice leaves and the growing environment was not derived.
