Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to analyze the evoked EMG in masseter muscle by transcranial magnetic stimulation on periodic clenching. Eight healthy male subjects were asked to periodic maximum clenching for 15 seconds 15 times. The magnetic stimulation was applied via 8-figuere-shaped coil to the appropriate region of the moter cortex on the scalp at a interval of the maximum clenching. The evoked EMG was picked up from a ipsilateral masseter muscle with a surface electrods. In control, the latency of the evoked EMG in a ipsilateral masseter muscle was 2.4-4.5 msec.by magnetic stimulation, the duration was 3.1-5.0 msec.and the amplitude was 0.59-1.85 mvolt. When the periodic muximum clenching passed, the amplitude was decreased in contrast to the latency and the duration of the evoked EMG.
