Research Abstract |
1.The state of ocular movement deprivation can intuitively be evaluated in patients with consciousness disturbance, in those in a vegetative state and in those with symptoms of dementia, but cannot be evaluaed either objectively or quantitatively under the present circumstances. 2.Electro-oculogram (EOG) data were analyzed according to frequency (CSA : compressed spectral array) and evaluated quantitatively objective evaluation of the amount of ocular movement in 51 patients with consciousness disturbance or 8 alert patients as control group. 3.As the severity of consciousness disturbance increased, patients showed a lower frequency and smaller amount of ocular movement, as compared with subjects with alert consciousness. 4.According to consciousness disturbance, the ocular movement pattern and reduced reactivity due to object pursuit stimulation were derermined objectively by EOG 5.A paucity of expression and decreased amount of ocular movement in patients with consciousness disturbance were considered to be attributable to reduction in the patient's reactivity and attention. T1 present method was considered useful for quantitavie evaluation of the changes of ocular movement in consciousness and of the recovery process. 6.Further study is needed on the correlation between cognitive activity and disturbanec site using vario loads.
