Research Abstract	WCRPとして組織されている全球規模でも気候変動の研究に関する企画委員会に積極的に参加し、その研究計画の進展に資すると共に、日本の国内の研究活動を紹介し、国際的な相互理解を促進した。 4月には、ワシントンで開かれたCLIVAR-SSGに参加、CLIVARの実施計画策定に参加した。CLIVARは、GOALS,DECCEN,ACCと三つの分野に分かれているが、GOALでは、日本が中心として行っているGAMEとの連携を、DECCENでは、北太平洋を中心とした10年スケールの気候変動に関する観測的研究の必要性を強調した。 7月には、WOCE-SSGに参加し、WOCEデータの取りまとめ、総合化に関する討議に参加した。とりわけ、日本付近で行われている黒潮計測、日本海での観測結果などを報告した。 12月には、GCSSに参加し、雲の力学に関する討議に参加した。日本でも、雲モデルに基づく研究が進展してきたのは、この活動の成果である。 2月には、GEWEX-SSGに参加した。この会議では、GAMEを中心とする陸域水文過程の観測的研究の強化を踏まえて、21世紀の始めに、世界的な観測計画を提案した。また、2月には、第6回の日米気候変動会議に参加し、今後の気候変動研究計画について討議した。特に、ハワイにIPRCという研究センターが日米共同で出来たこと。また、アメリカの研究費が増加してきて新たな研究計画を策定できる余地があることから、真剣な討議が行われ、今後の研究計画に関する決議がなされた。
