Research Abstract |
Helical fusion systems have major advantages over Tokamak - type devices because of no plasma current disruptions and reliable steady - state operations . For achieving better fusion reactors , it is important to develop the plasma confinement of helical systems . The world - largest helical machine , Large Helical Device ( LHD ) has started plasma operation in Japan , and the Wendelstein 7 - X ( W7 - X ) is being constructed in Germany . It is very useful to discussed with each other for both projects . During 2 - years research collaboration period as a Grant under the Monbusho International Scientific Research Programs , we performed the following items : (1) Research coordinating and Planning : Discussion about the LHD International Mutual Experiment ( LIME ) Program and the related international research collaboration have been carried out in Germany , Spain , France and so on. (2) Confinement Analysis and Helical Reactor Design : Several researchers from IPP - Garching discussed experimental database and analysis methods . (3) Advanced Magnetic Configuration Optimization : Some researchers from Germany and Russia helped us optimize helical system . (4) World - Wide Survey on the helical research activity : Personal exchanges have being carried out for theoretical and experimental issues . It should be noted that based on this Grant activities the LIME program was approved and started from Fiscal Year 1998 .
