Research Abstract |
We have performed collaborative research on pediatric neoplasm between 1996 and 1997, with the British Columbia University (UBC), Vancouver, Canada. The results are as follows; 1) A research on detection of chromosome translocation ; We attempted to detect the chromosome translocation of small round cell tumors using paraffin-embedded archival tissue, by RT-PCR and FISH. For the purpose, we brought the specimens sampled at the Yokohama City University Hospital to the UBC Childrens' Hospital. Extraction of the nucleic acids were unsuccessful, which was confirmed by the failure of RT-PCR amplification of the housekeeping gene. Nevertheless, we succeeded in RT-PCR detection of chromosome translocation using fresh frozen tissue by the methods learned at UBC. 2) Characterization of the newly established cell lines; We established two new cell lined; one derived from a childhood pancreatic adenocarcinoma (RAN-SHOW) and the other from hemodialysis-associated renal cell carcinoma (DRY). We are now characterizing their natures as a collaborative study. 3) Others ; We are also doing a comparative epidemiological study of childhood cancers and investigation of spontaneous regression of neuroblastoma-group tumors.
