A Synthetic Study on the Principles of Symbiosis in Buddhism and Other Religions
This study aims to analyze the principles of symbiosis in Buddhism and other religious thoughts, and to try to synthetically comprehend them, focusing on the theme as follows,
1)Does the principle of symbiosis function in Buddhism?
2)If it does, then how does it function?
3)How does the principle of symbiosis in Buddhism associate with the other religious thoughts?
In these three years, 17 scholars as a team have tried to inquire the common theme, approaching through their own fields.
During the first two years, each scholar has studied individually the principle of symbiosis in his own field, and in every year the scholars had a meeting to discuss the common theme as their interim research reports. These annual discussions had effectively made the results of their philological studies in the limited area critically reviewed standing on wider viewpoints, and succeeded in deepening their own studies.
In the final year, each scholar has tried to crystallize logical basis for the principle of symbiosis in his field basing on results of the discussions.
Needless to say, the subject of symbiosis is now a universal concern of humanity, and an important topic in all fields. A study on the principle of it in a strict sense, however, does not yet seem to be carried out. Our synthetic study of it, therefore, should be appreciated as a fundamental one, and be able to offer some effective proposals to the modern society.
