| Research Abstract |
Main purpose of our project is to investigate the social change in Japan form four angles, the globalization, the innovation, the information system and the community structure. We set up the five groups to research for ten areas and each group carried out research on area studies at Tokyo and Tokai area.
Tokyo area
Group 1 : Tokyo seaside area and neighboring wards
Group 2 : Chiba prefecture and the southern part of Ibaraki prefecture
Group 3 : The central and the southern Saitama prefecture
Group 4 : The eastern Tokyo, Tama area, around Hachiouji city
Group 5 : The central Kanagawa prefecture
Tokai area
Nagoya city and Chubu new International airport
Toyohashi city in Aichi pre.
The central and the eastern Gife prefecture
Hamamatsu city in Shizuoka pre.
Ogaki city in Gife pre.
We had three years to research there. First year, we researched at Tokyo area and second year, we went t research to Tokai area, then we made up with the deficiency at both areas on third year..
As a result, the following points are clarified,
(1) Although we tried to compare Tokyo area with Tokai area, we could not achieve our original intent. We could have in particular to find that the fact of all its functions are too concentrated in Tokyo.
(2) The reason for it's difficult to compare the two areas is not only difference of amount of population and a scale of town but also they have different type of industries. Then, we realized that all area has been full of upheavals.
(3) The social change enters on a new phase for 21 century, around 2010 We are very much aware of the continued existence of relations among cities and those communities. We found that Tokai area more had begun to change to be scattered and polarized than Tokyo area.
(4) There is room for further discussion about how are related a political structure, the economic structure, a governmental organization, the inside of structure, leaderships, and an ideology to the social changes.
