Research Abstract

Three fundamental foci of this research are as follows : (1)qualification problem within sociological education, (2)relevance of sociological education to so-called "university reform" or popularization and internationalization of higher education and information age, (3)opinions of teachers and students including both in undergraduate and graduate courses.
In order to clarify these foci, we studied theoretical works on sociological education, and also didpreliminary interviews with relevant organization staffs. Based on this information, we have conducted three kinds of questionaire survey :
(A)Questionaire survey of the Japna Sociological Society's general members. Questions include items on research money, research project teams, equipment and facilities for research, utilization of information service and devices, support system for teaching, academic association membership, opinions on the activity of the Japan Sociological Society, methods of teaching, subjects or courses which they teach. Collected samples are 868.
(B)Questionare survey of graduate students who enjoy sociological education. Questions include items on living and studying costs, motivation to go on into graduate school, research theme, publiation, academic association membership, study style, equipment and facilities, research environment, instruction, job opportunity, opinions on the Japan Sociological Society, and so on. Collected samples are 505.
(C)Questionare survey of adult students who enjoy sociological education. Collected samples are 192.
Trough these surveys, many empirical facts surrounding sociological education in Japna were collected. Allocation structure of opinions on sociological education, which will be proved to be very useful in deciding the strategy and policy of the Society, was also clarified.
