Research Abstract |
The main purpose of this project is to study major astronomical problems by space-borne infrared observations. We took the following three approaches. The first approach is to make observational studies with the Japanese space-borne infrared telescope IRTS (Infrared Telescope in Space), which was the first Japanese space-borne infrared telescope and was launched on-board the SFU satellite in 1995. We have the following three major topics : 1. AGB stars and their environments 2. Observational study of Interstellar Matter 3. Infrared background radiation The second approach is to make observational studies of the following three topics with ISO (Infrared Space Observatory), which is an European infrared space mission. 1. Interstellar gas and dust 2. Mass loss process from evolved stars 3. Search for primeval galaxies On the basis of the above two approaches, we also discuss the possibility of future missions, Astro-F and HII/L2.
