| Research Abstract |
本申請は「軌道概念によって展開される基礎有機化学理論」すなわち「有機軌道論」の確立を指向し,新しい有機化学理論発見に向けての実験有機化学者と理論有機化学者の共同研究体制構築のためのわが国初の試みであり,日本化学会研究会「量子有機化学研究会」を母体として申請された.
補正予算で交付されたので予算的には時期遅れであったが,本申請の交付認定いかんにかかわらず,研究者仲間で上記の主旨で2回の会合(研究会(平成8年8月;岐阜)や量子有機化学シンポジウム(平成9年1月24日,於基礎化学研究所;京都))を持つことにしていたため,これらの会合は極めてスムーズに行うことが出来た.交付後に急遽特別に計画した研究会(平成9年1月25日;京都;量子有機化学シンポジウムの翌日)では軌道概念を個々の現象に具体的に適用可能な予測のための定性的理論として深化定着させ,精緻な実験と量子理論から導出される新しい理論や原理の発見を含む飛躍的展開を加えて「有機軌道論」として学問的に確立し,理学・工学・薬学・農学の幅広い分野で利用できる普遍性を備えた軌道論の構築を目標として,実験化学者から提示された説明不可能な実験データを第一線の理論化学者と共に討論しながら考える充実した機会を持つことが出来た.量子有機化学シンポジウム(第2回)は93名の参加者を得,参加者の質疑応答,講演者の講演内容ともに母体となる量子有機化学研究会の将来を象徴するものであった.
福井理論をはじめ,わが国には量子化学史上まれにみる偉大な学問的遺産が蓄積されている.これらの遺産を継承し発展させ,創造的思考を触発する新たな有機化学の概念-有機軌道論-を生み出すための素地は十分にあると感じた.
