Research Abstract |
In this study, we tried to produce a global soil wetness data set. Model oriented approach is based on several 1-D Soil Vegetation Atmosphere Transfer Schemes(SVATS)which are incorporated in General Circulation Models (GCMs). The ISLSCP Initiative 1 was used as unified atmospheric forcing data. An unified index was used for inter-comparison of model produced soil wetness data sets. Center for Climate Systems Research, University of Tokyo functioned as an Inter-comparison CenterICC). The major ten modeling groups in the world joined this projicts. The results of inter-comparison shows, there is quite large difference among the products. Surface wetness derived from models corresponds to satellite-based one under the condition less than saturate. Bu using the observed soil moisture data, the atmospherebasin water budget method and the short term water budget method, the model produced data sets show good correspondence qualitatively but not quantitatively.
