Research Abstract |
Toward the construction of scholarly information dessemination environments within the scholarly community featuring university libraries, we carried out researches on the networked information dissemination network environments and developed prototypes of electronic dissemination systems of university (faculty or department) bulletins and reports. Researches were carried out at National Center for Science Information Systems, Kagoshima University, Kumamoto University, Kyoto University, Nagaoka University of Technology, International Christian University, Kanazawa University and Tokyo University. Submission rule and copyright for electronic publishing of research bulletins and reports were investigated. Research bulletins and reports in printed format were converted into digital formats and built into prototype databases which had special features : -data storage in both full-text files (SGML) and image files (GIF and PDF), -full-text retrieval system, and -accessibility via internet with web-browsers. Following points were identified : -functions and roles of university libraries within scholarly information dissemination environments, -some essential factors of information retrieval (including full-text search) and document delivery (including image formats) for scholarly information dissemination on the internet environment, and -future task, that is, construction of systems with distributed databases and integrated access methods.
