| Research Abstract |
環太平洋地域には、過去のプレート沈み込み作用の産物であるコルディレラ型造山帯が発達しており、大陸縁辺の成長プロセスおよび成長速度を定量的に解明するためには各種構成岩石の正確な年代学の設立が不可欠の条件となる。平成8年度の本研究では、特にジルコンのウラン鉛年代を多数測定する目的で、新たに東京工業大学地球史資料館内部に高能率ジルコン分離システムを構築した。株)京都フィッショントラック社によって開発されたそのシステムの概要は以下の通りである。
1)岩石試料の機械的粉砕行程(その1:乳鉢)
2)岩石試料の機械的粉砕行程(その2:ボールミル)
3)粉末試料の水洗と椀がけ分離
4)超磁性体による分離
5)重液分離
システムの構築そのものにかなりの時間を要したが、すでに試験的におこなったジルコンの鉱物分離は成功しており、従来の方法に比べて極めて高能率の分離システムが完成したといえる。さらに一部のパイロットサンプル(花こう岩)について同大学の設備であるICP-MSを用いてウラン鉛年代が得られている。
