| Research Abstract |
V.JonesはII_1型factor Mのsubfactor Nに対してMのN-moduleとしてのrankに当たるJones index[M:N]を導入した。そのアイデアは幸崎とLongoによってII型からIII型のfactorの場合にまで拡張された。Pimsner-Popaのbasisと幸崎の定義にヒントをえて、研究代表者はC^*-環BからそのC^*-部分環Aへの条件付期待値E:B→Aに対してJones indexに相当するIndex Eを導入することに成功した。Subfactorの構造を解析する方法としては最初はhigher relative commutantsを調べることがあったが、研究の過程でbimoduleの構造を調べることの重要性が認識された。今回の研究では、C^*-環に対してもそれに対応するHilbert C^*-bimoduleの概念を導入し、さらにそれへの(可算離散)群の作用による接合積の構成を提案した。そしてその接合積が既約になるための条件として、ある種のfree性とエルゴード性をみたせば十分であることを発見した。また竹崎-高井の双対定理のHilbert C^*-bimodule版を定式化し、その典型例としてA型とD型のディンキン図形の間の双対性が表われることを示した。さらにbimoduleとそのconjugateを交互にtersur積をとっていった時の既約分解のルールも調べた。
