Research Abstract |
An inclined column crystallizer was operated to purify the epsilon-caprolactam-water mixtures and the following conclusions were obtained. 1. The larger the inclination the better the separation, although differences impurity profiles as well as the coefficients for the axial dispersion and the purification rate are found insignificant. 2. The longer the column length, in particular the purification length, the better the purification effect results. 3. Crystal characteristics in terms of slurry density and morphology are different between the lop, cooling section and the bottom melting section. They are small in size in the top and became compact in the bottom. 4. Analysis on the basis of the axial dispersion- purification rate mechanism, it was concluded that the upper part of the purification section was controlled by the axial dispersion mechanism, while in the lower part the purification rate of crystalline particles plays an dominant role.
