Research Abstract

1) Increased incorporation of ^3H-proline into the collagen in the heart was remarkable in the chronic phase of adrenal-regeneration hypertensive (ARH) rats. Administration of alpha 1 blocker effectively suppressed such protein synthesis concomitant with reduction of blood pressure. Incorporation of ^3H-proline into the cardiac elastin remained unchanged. Similar results were also obtained in the mesenteric arteries in hypertensive ARH rats. Unilateral nephrectomy and bilateral adrenal enucleation in salt-loaded rats evoked hypertension (ARH). Treatment with desoxycorticosterone (DOCA) too ARH rats further enhanced incorporation into the collagen and non-collagenous protein in such DOCA-treated ARH rats with rapid development of remarkable hypertension. Administration of beta blocker failed to reduce such vascular protein synthesis and hypertension vascular collagen and non-collagenous protein play and important role for the pathogenesis hypertension.
2) Collagen, non-collagenous protein and elastin were determinde in renal and testicular arteries in humons. High amount of non-collagenous protein was noted in the testicular arteries in hypertensive patients. Linear postine relationship was seen between blood pressure and the content of non-collatenous protein. These results indicate that increased synthesis of testicular arteries appears to raise the blood pressure in human beings.
3) Our follow-up study of patients with primary aldosteronism showed that tumor-uninbolved adrenal cortex regenerated in 11monthes. Such study was done by visualization of the partiaally resected gland by CT or scintigraphy in addition to endocrine analysis.
