Research Abstract |
These collected studies are concerned with the investigation and the contemporary significance of "modern and modernization", and the feasibility of drawing generalizations from the two points of view ; the basic studies of humannity and society, and the comparative regional studies. After thirteen meetings in which each member of this research group presented research papers, and eleven meetings of preparatory discussions, we have reached the following conclusions. From the studies of group [II] , we can not accept that modernization has developed in a single and simple way, but conclude that each region of the world, including the West, has experienced multi-phased processes of modernization. Therefore it would be difficult to generalize about modernization as a single concept. On the other hand, however, as the studies of group [I] suggests, based on the understanding that the contemporary modern world shares the similar fruits and difficulties common to "modern" , we will have address the important question of how we can and should relate the variety of individual from of modernization, determined by regional characteristics, to the concept of "better life for human beings" , as proposed by a genuine, positive mode of "modernization" . Henceforth we would like to develop our collaborative research.
