Research Abstract |
We carried out blow and fall experiments using a physical model of the head. Midparietoccipital region of the head was impacted. In the blow experiment using a heavy hammer (1,480g), the peak value of the impact force was 206kg and the duration time was 2.6ms, and the peak value of the acceleration of the head was 25.4g and the duration time was 2.6ms. In the blow one using a light hammer (820g), the peak value of the impact force was 200kg and the duration time was 2.0ms and the peak value of the acceleration was 23g and the duration time was 2.0ms. In the fall experiment colliding with the automobile, impact velocity ranged from 5.59km/h to 6.46km/h. The peak value of the acceleration of the head ranged 13.6-35.4g and the duration time did 19.5-38.0ms in the impact experiments against the bonnet panel, 33.5-62.1g and 10.5-17.5ms in the ones against the windshield, 45.3 and 53.2g and 15.0 and 14.0ms in the ones against the mudguard panel, and 60.8 and 66.4g and 12.0ms in the ones against the A pillar panel. In the fall experiment colliding with a concrete floor, an iron plate and timber, impact velocity ranged from 6.25km/h to 6.57km/h. The peak value of the acceleration of the head was 88.6g and the duration time was 8.5ms in the impact experiment to a concrete floor, 78.4g and 9.0ms in the one to an iron plate, and 74.8 and 78.3g and 9.5ms in the ones against timber. we studied on brain injuries. In blow and fall accidents, we observed cerebral contusion in almost all cases. We recognized DAI in the traffic accident case in which the victim's head was collided against the bonnet panel or windshield, and cerebral contusion against the A pillar panel.
