Research Abstract |
Purposes of this study are : to make clear the variation of traditional Japanese-styled wooden small fishing boat used in northern-eastern areas of the Pacific-coast, to confirm the distribution of same-styled fishing boat in the above areas, to compare the difference of skill of ship-buil-ders with each district. By this research, I can find out some boat is build by the skill of digging-out which has used for the dugout from timbers in the nothern parts of Honshu, Japan. Such boat is named "Mudana-zukuri-no-fune" in Jananese, and the distribution of this boat is confirmed from Taro-cho, Iwate Pref., to Noshiro-shi, Akita Pref.. This kind of boat take usually with "Kuruma-gais" as oars, and the skill of ship-building has succeeded by the appren-ticeship from generation to generation.
