Research Abstract |
In our project, we set up two research tasks. The first task is to pick up reliable and useful data from "Collection of the Japanese population statistics before 1920" (NIHON JINKOU TOUKEI SHUUSEI) 22 volumes published in Tokyo, 1993. This collection contains huge volumes of demographic data from 1872 to 1919 year. We picked up many data, such as, population, household, birth, death, marriage, divorce, in and out migration and statics of population. Then, we compile it into statistical tables. In the second task, we divide whole parts of the country to five divisions, (1) four Metropolitan area (Kei-hin, Tyukyo, Kei-han-shin, Kita-kyushu), (2) Heavy industry city (5 in 1920 year) , (3)Textile industry city (23 in 1920 year) , (4) Other city, (5) Other town and village. We are going to make up, about each five divisions, tables of population growth, birth and death, in and out migration during 1887-1918, and try to verify the influence of industrialization, urbanization, and changing mode of life, to the dynamics of population, expressed in those tables. Concerning to our two years results, I beg to take a glance at our report.
