Research Abstract |
Clinical study (1) Evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy after LMC Clinically, the dissapearance of enhanced effect on CT imaging (a low density area on enhanced CT after LMC that is larger than the tumor size) was useful.. (2) Histological examination after microwave irradiation Around the area of coagulation necrosis, liver cells were aggregated, but nucleus was intact in H.E.stain. Histologically, these liver cells were intact in H.E.stain and electron microscope, but in future these cells became necrosis. We examined cytochrome C oxidase. Before treatment, cytochrome C oxidase activity wa seen. After microwave irradiation, there was no cytochrome C oxidase activity in mitochondoria. But, the form of mitochondria, nucleus, and other cell-organs were intact. Initially microwave effects was considered thermal effexts. But, from these results, there may be unknown mechanisms to the liver. Experimental Results (1) The results of microwave effects (60W,1min.) to the vessels. Irradiation was performed near the portal vein and the hepatic vein (distance is 2mm). Desquamation of epithelial cells and degeneration of collagen fibers occured. But, portal vein and hepatic vein were not occuluded. Further, bile duct and hepatic artery were intact. It was condidered that large blood vessels does not sustain injury. (2) Microwave effects on canine liver The center of coagulated area which was inserted electrode became carbonized. Around carbonized area, coagulation necrosis occured. Around the area of coagulation necrosis, liver cells were aggregated, but nucleus was intact in H.E.stain. Histologically, these liver cells were intact, but in future these cells became necrosis. Around aggregated cells, sinusoidal dilatation and congestion were seen.
