Research Abstract |
In order to clarify the pathogenesis of Meniere's disease, the relationship between strial Na-K ATPase activity and catecholamines was investigated using a cerium-based cytochemistry. Strial Na-K ATPase activity was affected by exogenous catecholamines and was bidirectionally regulated by catecholamines : dopamine decreased its activity, but other catecholamines and serotonin increased the enzyme activity. Thus, catecholamines are found to be essential for the maintenance of the strial Na-K ATPase activity. Transport Na-K ATPase activity of the facial nerve was also investigated using the same method mentioned above. Then, two Transport Na-K ATPase reactivities were determined ; reserpine-sensitive and reserpine-resistant. These findings indicated that reserpine-resistant part was independent upon the catecholamines. After investigating these experiments, the etiology of the endolymphatic hydrops was histologically examined by a light microscope.
