Research Abstract

It is know that, ocular blood flow volume (perfusion pressure/flow resistance), ocular blood flow volume (1/blood dynamic viscosity), flow resistance (1/blood vessel internal diameter), perfusion pressure (blood pressure-intra ocular pressure) in ocular circulation system. It is possible that the other parameters effect to intra ocular blood flow. In human eyes, there is auto-regulated system to keep blood flow volume, spite of the change of these parameters. Ischemic optic disease and application of autonomic drug disturb this auto-regulated system.
In this study, we measured flow velocity of inter ocular micro blood vessel and blood flow volume of retinal tissue using ultrasonic color Doppler imaging and laser scanning flow meter in patients with normal tension glaucoma, and showed that flow velocity and volume are decreased compared with normal subjects.
we measured retinal blood flow in normal subjects who are treated topically by beta agonist, carteolol hydrochloride, and showed that ocular blood flow volume increase against for ocular perfusion pressure decrease. Local and systemic effects of carteolol hydrochloride conflict with auto-regulated system, it means complexity of the system.
In the other hand, to construct simulation model of multi branched blood vessel as electrical distributed constant line, many parameters related to the auto-regulated system must be corresponded to the electric line parameters. In this study, we reconstructed three dimensional shape of intra ocular blood vessel, in order to clear the blood vessel diameter and curve related to blood flow resistance.
In the term of this project, we studied many parameters related to intra ocular dynamics. To accomplish of the simulation model, clearing relationship between these many parameter and the simulation model parameters, are now in progress.
