Research Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is he relationship between early spontaneous abortion and reverse bacterial infection to the decidual tissue, and to find out the nursing interventions to reduce the infection.
Residual tissues in the uterus after spontaneous abortion were examined with histopathologically, and bacteriologically. Of 75 samples which were obtained during this study, leukocyte infiltration into the residual decidua tissue were found in 39 cases (52% of the all samples) . And twenty nine cases (74%) of the 39 cases showed presence of bacteria when examined with gram staining on the histologic specimens. On the other hand specimens without leukocyte infiltration into the decidual tissue showed only 28% of bacterial presence (8 cases out of 29) .
Bacterial culture was done from the specimen of 42 cases, and bacterial culture was positive for 15 cases out of 20 cases with leukocyte infiltration into decidual tissue and bacterial culture was positive 3 c … More ases out of 12 leukocyte negative decidual tissue cases. Also bacteria cultured from residual dcidua was Lactobacillus spp. (norml bacterial flora of the uterus) in later 3 cases.
From the data of the questionnaire all of the cases take a bath very day except 3 cases with on comment, but only 5 cases used to use "washlet" device who showed positive bacterial culture from residual decidua. Eight cases of 14 who had sex life after conception showed positive bacterial culture other than normal flora, and four cases of 12 who had not sex life after conception shoed positive bacterial culture.
Eleven cases out of 42 were found out that there were many bacteria (30 CFU/0.2ml of 20% residual tissue suspension except normal flora) in the residual tissue after spontaneous abortion and 8 cases of the 11 (histologically 2 cases had no decidual tissue) showed leukocyte infiltration into the residual decidua tissues. These result indicated some relationship between early spontaneous abortion and reverse infection to the decidual tissue of the uterus. However as for as nursing interventions there was not found any method to reduce reverse infection to the pregnant uterus. Less
