Research Abstract	日本人学生のための英語の聴取・発音の教材の編集手法を,国際音声記号体系(International Phonetic Alphabet,IPA)によって一般化することを検討した.英語の音声に対する日本語の音声の最も重要な違いである,母音体系と子音の種類について,計算機利用指導(Computer aided instruction,CAI)のソフトウエアを活用して,学習課程の個人差と,IPAによる介入の効果を調べた. 被験者は,早稲田大学の人間科学部学生4人(男3人と女1人)と大学院人間科学研究科の学生2人(男女各1人)の合計6人の日本人学生で,いずれも英語の成績が上位の20%に含まれている.ソフトウエアには,(株)国際電気通信基礎技術研究所のATR Hearing Schoolを利用した. 学習課程の途中で,IPAの調音図の上で,英語の/l/と/r/の音声の相互関係と,日本語のラ行の音声の先行・後続音の影響による変動を系統的に説明したさらに,調音器官の断面図で,英語の12種の母音に対する日本語の5種の母音の相互関係と,子音の調音位置を提示した. 観測の結果として注目されるのは,1)被験者の間で,母音も子音も聴取の成績に50〜90%の範囲の個人差が大きいこと,2)母音と子音の聴取の成績の相互に逆転していること,3)学習の過程で必要な段階数に非常に差があることなどである.4)IPAによる介入の効果は,聴覚的に音声の枠組みの違いをまだ把握していない被験者に有効であった.
