| Research Abstract |
The aim of this study is to develop upper secondary school instructional materials by considering the relationship. of science, technology, and society. The instructional materials show characteristics are focused on the following objectives :
1. The students should be able to behave along with social objects ;
2. The students should be able to assume attitude that allows the analysis and understanding of social problems ; and
3. The students should be able to discuss about social problems with generous manners.
The focus of teaching at the third year of the upper secondary schools in Japan is on plastics.
The instructional materials possess the following distinct characteristics. They are envisioned to promote the pupils' interest toward chemistry and the lessons on chemistry. Then these emphasize, the relationship of the context to each content being learned by the pupils. Lastly, the instructional materials provide variety of opportunity for the pupils to deal with various hands-on activities.
We tried to adopt these materials in the Fukuyama Attached Upper Secondary School of Hiroshima University and also in Gion Upper Secondary School located in Hiroshima.
In relation to the evaluation of these materials, we focused on the following two viewpoints, namely : 1) the achievement of each lesson target or aim ; and 2) the change of pupils attitude and thinking toward chemistry and chemistry lesson.
