This research project has the three-fold aims of examining the theories of qualitative research in education, doing qualitative case-studies focusing social studies and life-environmental studies classrooms, and re-examining of the historical studies of the social studies education practices in Japan. 1. In these three years, we practiced the educative fieldwork, may times, in elementaru and secondary classrooms in Fukuoka Prefecture, and accumulated qualitative case-studies. And collecting books and documets about qualitative methods in education, we examined them to reconstruct our own methodologies. As a product of our research activities, we identilied a me thud of research in instruction through participant-observation and trausscripting of class-commnunication processes 2. To finish our research project, we published a research report. It is constituted of two Parts. In part one, we propose a method of qualtitative studiy of classroom and instruction focusing on the social studies classes and life-environmental studies classes, and report four qualitative case studies. In part two, each of three chapters discusses about re-examining of historical studies of social studies education practices in Japau. 3.
