Research Abstract |
During the tenure of this Monbusho's international collaboration grant, Shinsuke Nakayama (Head Investigator) visited the Department of Pharmacology and the Department of Biochemistry, Oxford University, (from 14th August 97 to 17th September 97). Nakayama and the investigators listed (Brading, A. F., Clark, J. F., Smith, L. M. ) examined the effects of MgィイD12+ィエD1 on membrane currents in isolated smooth muscle cells. Also, during Nakayama was staying in Oxford, Lorraine Smith provided many useful comments on a manuscript describing 'Hormonal regulation of intracellular MgィイD12+ィエD1 concentration in heart'. This manuscript has been submitted to a scientific journal. On the other hand, Gail Pyne (Reserach Associate) visited the Department of Physiology, School of Medicine, Nagoya University (form 27th June 97 to 6th July 97). Gail Pyne started experiments regarding the interaction og MgィイD12+ィエD1 and spasminogen. Shinsuke Nakayama, Hideki Nomura and Kenji Kuba supported her work : simultaneous measurements of oxygen consumption and tension development in arterial smooth muscle. Carotid artery used in the experiment was kindly provided from Motonobu Ohtsuki (Nagoya Shokuniku Center). Gail Pyne continued this work in the Department of Biochemistry, Oxford and communicated some of the results in the 5th Annual Meeting of British Neurosurgery Research Group (Drymen, U. K. ). In the 75th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Physiological Society, a symposium entitled 'Magnesium on Nerve and Muscle Physiology' was held in Kanazawa (27th March 98). In the symposium Shinsuke Nakayama communicated some of the results concerning hormonal regulation of intracellular MgィイD12+ィエD1. also, Joseph Clark (investigator) and Peter Flatman (Lorraine Smith's former supervisor : Department of Physiology, Edinburgh) were invited. The titles of their communications were 'Magnesium in vascular smooth muscle contraction' and 'Ion transporters and magnesium homeostasis", respectively.
