Research Abstract |
In order to show that arrival times of cosmic-ray air showers have chaotic behavior and also cosmic ray chaos will occur on a global scale, fractal analysis using correlation dimensions has been made to the time series of Tunka-13 air shower experiment performed by the Irkutsk State University. Chaos events are searched and the results obtained are as follows. 1. Total 2061kilo shower events for effective observation time of 348 hours are analyzed. Data used are from 4^<th> Nov.1997 to 30^<th> Apr.1998. Intervals of successive air showers are embedded until 10^<th> dimension. Correlation dimensions are calculated by the P.Grassberger and I.Procaccia's method. As a result, 6 chaos candidates whose correlation dimension is about 4.8 at embedding dimension equals 8 are selected, Typical chaotic feature continues about 5 minutes or 10 minutes. 2. Also, on the air shower data observed at Kinki University (Higashi-Osaka City), correlation dimensions are calculated for the same period as Irkustk data. Selected chaos candidates are 9 events. In this case, chaos continues about 10 hours. 3. Four out of 6 chaotic air showers of the Irkutsk installation are detected during the same time zone also by the Kinki university installation which is at 3200km distance from the Irkutsk one. Chance probability of the 4 coincident events is 0.001, that is very small. Especially on 28^<th> Mar.1998, chaotic time series are observed at the same time at two installations. 4. Therefore we consider that chaotic air showers could be produced on a global scale. No special differences for chaos showers are found on the intensity and on the energy of air showers.
